For some people, the smell of fresh laundry is its own reward. For others, keeping clothes keen can feel like a chore. Thankfully, the basic rules are simple: 1) Put whites and coloured clothes in separate washes. 2) You can put almost anything into a tumble dryer – but using a washing line to dry your laundry will cut down on your energy bills and your carbon footprint. 3) If you want to avoid ironing, put the clothes onto the line to dry soon after the washing machine has finished, since this will reduce creasing. 4) If you don’t have access to outdoor space, or the weather is lousy, a dehumidifier will help laundry to dry quickly indoors while helping to keep damp at bay. Fabric conditioner is always a good investment. Like the adverts say, it really does make your clothes feel softer and smell better. It also reduces wear and tear in the washing machine, allowing your favourite outfits to last longer. Most washing machines have a special section for fabric conditioner, usually marked with a flower or star shape. |
